Don't get all excited. Sorry. This is not some high-paying thing. In fact, it's not a paying thing at all. But it could be a chance to become well known around town for what you know well around town. ;o) That is to say, if you know everything there is to know about the Lawrence Music Scene, you could be The Talk of Lawrence Music Editor. There are other possibilities as well, like Sports, or Culture, or City Politics, for just a few. These are not positions that would take a lot of your time and you don't have to know anything about Web sites. We do all of the technical stuff.
You would have to act like a regular reporter, in that you would need to be pretty unbiased. For example, if you were the high school sports editor, you couldn't let it show which of our two high schools you liked best. You could, of course, let it show that you like both Lawrence High and Free State better than any of the teams from, for example, Olathe. ;o) The same thing holds true for the music scene. You would have to write fairly even-handedly about all of it. Ditto everything else.
You just need to know your stuff, whatever that stuff is, and you have to know how to write an unbiased column or report. If you can do both those things on something like a schedule, you can get your name up in lights, or what amounts to up in lights on a little Web site. If that sounds interesting to you, let's start a conversation. To do that, click on "Write for Us" up at the far right of the top menu bar. Then tell us what you would like to write about and why you're qualified. Don't forget to give us a valid email address so that we can write back. You could be on your way to being semi-famous. |
